GIAC Secretary General Participates in the 83rd Session of UNCITRAL Working Group II

The Secretary General of the Georgian International Arbitration Centre (GIAC) Beka Injia and President of Georgian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Chair of GIAC Board, Giorgi Pertaia are participating in the 83rd session of the UNCITRAL Working Group II (Dispute Settlement), held in New York from February 16 to 20, 2026.

The session is dedicated to discussing critical amendments to the UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration and its explanatory notes. The primary focus of these discussions is the recognition and enforcement of electronic arbitral awards and electronic notices of arbitration. These amendments are vital as they underscore the necessity of formally including and defining the notion of electronic awards under the Model Law, reflecting the growing digitalization of dispute resolution.

GIAC has been an Observer member of UNCITRAL Working Groups II and III since 2018. While Working Group II is currently focused on issues related to international commercial arbitration, Working Group III is dedicated to the reform of Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS).

As an observer NGO, GIAC has the unique opportunity to present experience and practice from the Georgian perspective. Simultaneously, this engagement allows GIAC to remain at the forefront of global developments, keeping abreast of the approaches, discussions, and decisions shaping the future of international arbitration.
