GIAC Arbitration Days 2025: A Successful Gathering of International Arbitration Experts in Tbilisi

The twelfth annual Arbitration Days conference successfully took place in Tbilisi on October 9-10, 2025. The event was held at the Pullman Tbilisi Axis Towers and was organized by the Georgian International Arbitration Centre (GIAC). This year's conference was made possible through the financial support of partners including the Georgian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) and leading local and international law firms.

The conference brought together up to 170 local and international arbitrators, lawyers, and academics interested in arbitration and alternative dispute resolution. Participants gathered to share the latest news and challenges in the field.

Participants were addressed with welcome speeches by Mr. Paata Salia, the Minister of Justice of Georgia; Mr. Giorgi Pertaia, the President of the GCCI ; and Mr. Beka Injia, the Secretary General of GIAC.

This year's keynote speaker was James Doe, Partner and Head of Construction and Infrastructure Disputes at Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer. His speech, titled "The rise of regional hubs for international arbitration: Opportunities and challenges," was a highlight of the event.

The two-day event featured insightful panel discussions on a range of critical topics, including:

  • Scope of Arbitrability: Navigating Legal and Jurisdictional Boundaries

  • Rethinking the Arbitration Process: Time for a Procedural Reset?

  • Bridging the Divide: The Interaction Between Domestic Courts and Investment Arbitration

  • Construction and Infrastructure Arbitration: Frameworks, Claims, and Complexity

  • Shifting Landscapes: Emerging Trends in Investment

Additionally, a special GIAC-SCC Joint Event was held on 'Fast Track to Justice at the GIAC and SCC'. The conference also included various social events, which provided an excellent opportunity for attendees to establish professional connections.
